PrimeMeet Europe

PrimeMeet Europe is an English-language conference for representatives of European primate centres, researchers, policymakers and management teams involved in non-human primate research and strategy.

During this two-day conference, we will discuss non-human primate research and the current challenges faced within this field. The meeting offers a platform to exchange knowledge and experiences, strengthen connections and explore opportunities for future collaboration.

The conference also creates space for management teams of European primate centres to engage in discussions on strategic questions and the shared future of our sector.

Programme and speakers

The conference programme is divided into several blocks consisting of plenary sessions and interactive working groups. The detailed programme and speakers will be announced soon.

Block 1 – 26 May | 13:00 – 16:00
During the first block we will examine the current state of non-human primate research and the development of alternative research methods. How does the development of new in vitro methods go hand in hand with the refinement, replacement and reduction of in vivo methods?

The following topics will be discussed:

  • Infectious diseases;
  • Neuroscience;
  • CROs and translational models;
  • New approach methodologies (NAMs);
  • Regulatory aspects of non-human primate research;
  • Discussion on international perspective of NHP-research.

Block 2 – 26 May | 16:30 – 18:00
Researchers will meet in smaller groups to discuss the future of their research field across five thematic areas:

  • Infectious diseases and translational models;
  • Neuroscience and translational models;
  • 3Rs (welfare, veterinary sciences, and biobanking/databanking);
  • Public outreach;
  • NHP housing and sourcing.

To explore how collaboration between researchers and institutions can help further develop the field and ensure it remains future-proof.

Block 3 – 27 May | 08:30 – 10:00
What are the key insights from the first day of PrimeMeet? The working groups will reconvene to further refine their main insights and ideas. Afterwards, each group will present the most important outcomes of their discussions and share their perspectives on possible future research directions.

Block 4 – 27 May | 10:30 – 12:00
The conference will conclude with a roundtable discussion on the most important next steps for non-human primate research. Participants will share their perspectives and discuss how the field can develop in the coming years and how European organisations can strengthen one another.
